Jerkbaits are one of the most popular fishing lures for bass (many species for that matter), especially in deeper cooler waters. There are not many lures that can replicate the action of a dying baitfish struggling to move like the jerkbait can, but it comes with a catch... The angler must be ONE with the baitfish. This technique is truly one of the most difficult to get very good at. Yes, most anybody can catch a fish on a jerkbait, but the ones who absolutely slay them, are the ones who have mastered the art of jerk cadence, pause duration, and having mind muscle connection to always impart the exact kind of twitch/action regardless of the lures depth, or the amount of line the angler may have in the water at a time. The angler must get inside the mind of a baitfish to properly fish this technique. With this tool we hope to help advise the cadence specifically, so anglers always know a good rhythm to fish their jerkbait and improve catch probability.
Tool input criteria designed purely for jerkbait cadence recommendations. When considering this topic as a whole, there are so many other things that influence jerkbait fishing, such as line choice, lure size, lure depth, how hard you twitch or jerk, how much line you have out currently, is there stretch in your line, etc... Many of these variables can't be replicated in a tool like this so we stuck with this being purely for cadence advising.
Here is an example output based on the creators common fishing conditions. Targeting Smallmouth, in cold water temperatures, on those cool/calm low activity days.
Best Jerkbait Retrieve For You
Pro Tip
Vary your jerk cadence slightly, adjusting the speed of your twitches and the length of your pauses based on the fish's reaction. Don’t be afraid to experiment until you find what triggers the bite! Don't be afraid to pause extra long, even as long as minutes at a time. Sometimes doing less is more!
Jacob, owner at the Tool Collective here, I am an avid bass angler and have been for 20 years, and spent 4 years competitively fishing in college. I designed most every bass fishing related tool here, and will add more as this is one of my primary hobbies. Jerk bait fishing is a technique I fell in love with when fishing the lakes of East Tennessee for Smallmouth. There was such an exactitude that was required to be effective, and in my experience, those that could perfectly apply it, absolutely crushed every tournament and made every other angler look silly. Just one key difference such as longer pause lengths, more subtle jerks, or being the one insane levels of patience letting their lure soak for upwards of 5 min every cast, is what makes the difference with this technique. So here is a tool I hope to help guide an angler into the art of fishing the jerkbait. This was also a fun tool to type out as I implanted many innuendos for my own comedic enjoyment. Anybody who does not know what a jerkbait is might get a good laugh.
This tool takes primary weather/fishing conditions to provide good "rules of thumb" for jerkbait fishing cadence. Like stated above there is a multitude of other variables to be effective at fishing the jerkbait, but this tool gets it as close as we can when talking about cadence. We built it on our typical AI engine model, with these precise input and options to ensure everything is taken into account in its decision making. Accompanied by a custom prompt that outlines precise criteria for the engine to follow ensure quality outputs.
"My name is Jacob P. and I am the founder and owner of The Tool Collective and a jack of all trades with a deep passion for the outdoors, tech, entertainment, and more. I grew up in Virginia and I have a bachelors degree in geosciences and environmental engineering. I created this platform with a deep core philosophy in mind... I had always felt out of place and unhappy in professional settings and my career choices (as many others do), so what if I built a platform that allows people like myself to pursure their passion and interests in full, while being able to share their knowledge and expertise with the world. BUT, it had to be MORE than just another blog... So, I spent weeks crafting the tool system that is the heart of The Tool Collective. I built a system that combines expert/enthusiast knoweldge and the power of LLM's to create tools (calculators, advisors, buying decision advisors, etc.) that go beyond standard AI chat engines and are incredibly unique/niche/useful. We incorporate our knoweldge to code precise instructions and logic in the backend of every tool we publish. This results in a tool that combines the power and broad resource knoweldge of modern LLM's and human craftmenship that you can trust.
Here's how it works,
Every tools inputs and input options are precisely chosen by the human creator, we then create a system prompt which is the guiding instruction of the specific tool, this outlines the question at hand, and establishes the proper voice, output format, and other key pieces we need the LLM to produce, within the system prompt we also include any necessary logic parameters which is crucial for keeping output quality high, and reducing any errors, inaccuracies, or simply illogical or non-expert approved outputs. For example, if we notice the tool producing a product recommendation that the expert wouldn't recommend themselves given the users input choices, we explicitly state in the backend of the tool (if user selects "X", only recommend "Y"). This is what allows us to stay in control of the LLM and keep quality much higher than if the users were to go ask an LLM the same question we are solving with our tools. Lastly, the input design is crucial as we can ensure the users are taking into account every variable that influences the specific question at hand.
The tools are the heart and soul of the platform, but I have a much larger vision. The term "Collective" in our name was chosen meaningfully as we intend to make this not only a site full of broad and niche tools, but a site where people of all walks of life, all passions and interests, can contribute their knowledge by creating new and inventive tools, and creating content focused around sharing their knowledge, expertise, and experiences with the world, there is no limit. Potentially allowing you to pursue your passion in full and make a living doing so here at The Tool Collective. Thus escaping the stress and unhappiness of everyday career pursuits, and putting their full time into whatever they are passionate about.
A collective of people, a collective of knowledge, a collective of tools and resources. In a sense, the contributors are the tools themselves.
This is the vision and mission for the future of The Tool Collective. A platform where people can "escape the matirx" and pursue whatever they are passionate about by sharing their knowledge and experiences with the world to take advantage of."
